Guide to Spectrum Analyzers & Signal Generators

About Spectrum Analyzers

Spectrum analyzers, sometimes called signal analyzers, are general-purpose deviced used to measure and analyze the frequency characteristics of any electrical, optical, and audio waveforms. Typically, spectrum analyzers are used to measure the power spectrum of a signal.

Audio spectrum analysis - used to characterize the frequency response, harmonics, noise and distortion in audio power amplifiers and loudspeakers.

Radio-frequency (RF) spectrum analysis - used to characterize signals in radio, TV, cellular and wireless networks.

Power spectrum analysis - used to indicate the power of each frequency component of the source time domain signal. Physiological signals such as ECG, EKG, and EEG are often characterized using power spectral analysis.

Real-time spectrum analyzers (RTSA) can trigger on the signal, which allows you capture signals in memory, and analyze them later on for trending.
